God Gave Me You For Christmas

by Rick Hamrick

The way we met
no way to forget
It was magic
It was kismet
It was...
Internet

Weeks on the phone
Email missives by the thousand
Love born and raised
without eyes ever meeting

But eyes must meet
and arms are to enfold
So we called the airlines
And made plans to fly

God gave me you for Christmas
God made my dreams come true
God gave me you for Christmas
And I give you my love
I give you my love

You walked into the terminal
And I felt my heart race
We clutched each other
And kissed like we'd waited forever

The baggage system lecture
You endured with a smile
With your head on my shoulder
Your eyes sometimes open, sometimes closed

Our first days together
Sealed the plans we had made
We struggled with the months intervening
'Til you, me, Luna, and truck made the trek

Now we're together every day
Love changes, grows, mellows
And every time I come home
You are there, and we linger in a hug.

I really believe that
I must have done something right
Not a little something
But a huge, heroic right

'CauseĀ…
God gave me you for Christmas
God made my dreams come true
God gave me you for Christmas
And I give you my love
I give you my love
