far from here there is a river

by Gary Hoffmann

far from here there is a river
that lies forever between
the prose of forgotten lovers
and the poetry of dreams
and when the sun rises over
the dark shallows of your soul
and brightens the world of faeries
and on darkness takes its toll
and shines on the silver waters
that flow from the final gate
remember where the river lies
and think on forgotten fate
whose silver skin is never marred
who dances through moon shadows
and takes us up beyond the stars
and loves us in the meadows
for she swims the silver river
as it flows around your heart
and her breath is the frozen wind
that shatters your soul apart
so when the snows begin to fall
and all seems shadows and dust
and e'en your eyes have turn'd to ice
and there's not a soul you trust
remember that the river falls
forever like heaven's rain
to land like tears upon your soul
and wash far away your pain
