dancing in darkness by Gary Hoffmannin darkness alone I dance to Jewel
singing sadly my despair
of frozen dreams like so many bubbles
floating softly by your ear
and then whisper silently in the night
and bring to pass pretty fear
how those beautiful hands talk of nothing
and then tell you so little
about nothing at all
so you wish you could take this piece of glass
strangely shaped by arts delight
and then bend the world to make it a prism
to see the world new tonight
and to focus affection from those hands
and then to laugh at the sight
for love makes you see God's dark contrition
born of an anger unknown
to once immortal hearts
but alas these lupine eyes are so blind
to the rose I give away
or perhaps they see and she turns from me
perhaps she'll look 'gain some day
O, how I wish those hands and eyes were mine
to see, hold, and - if I may
to love, and then, oh, to not be afraid
of again being lonely
and dancing in darkness
to Jewel, singing sadly my despair
