circles by Gary Hoffmannfirst, a circle of stone
circle of brick
circle of trees
circle of bushes
and circle of steps
more stone
more trees
then stone benches
then nothing
you dance laughingly
in the circles for
the last time with
hollow friends
and tears never cried
and hearts never touched
and voices never heard
and eyes never wept
and loves never lost
and now it's gone with
nothing outside the circles
but loneliness
and dried blood never shed
so you dance cryingly
with ghosts never dead
and memories never had
and hopes unfulfilled
and so many dreams
all wasted in the circles
because you're too much
a coward to tell her
"I love you"

Posted by Meghan Helmich on 07/09/08 at 12:51 PM the last line really put the poem into perspective. i honestly didn't know where it was going, but it brought it together for me. nice job. |
