Beyond the Onyx Gates

by Gary Hoffmann

Eternity beckons to me as I wait
For God to open the Onyx Gate
But yet I lay here to placate
The masses that demand my blood.
So I reach for Fortune's breast
And pray that I will be blessed
By Fate, and then may rest
Before arrives the hateful flood.
Darkness wait's for me there
Amidst lost souls, bright and fair
Who cry out to find the heavenly stair
Which was lost so long ago.
Quietly I wade through the crammed
And copious dungeons of the damned
All doors so strangely epigrammed
To help the evil inside me grow.
O, how Evil waits, ever still
Standing o'er grave and under hill
Waiting for some soul to kill
The music of my madness.
So I caper through black snow
Dancing as I yearn to throw
My soul forth and then to show
The trappings of my sadness.
Death would be such sweet embrace
For one who yearns to replace
The white silk of Religion's lace
With such bloody garotte
As was used against my soul
So oft that I must now console
My heart with a sinlge goal
To seek that which is unsought
For all of morose Eternity.
And then, perhaps, I will see
What strange device is meant for me
In the Blackness that awaits.
Dearest Mother, do not fear
The Darkness, now, is becoming clear
And I can see what sits right here
Beyond the Onyx Gates.
