The Prophet by Amanda J Cobb - inspired by something I read.
"The Light will fall!" wailed the prophet, eight years old, yet full grown. She shrank in fear from the vision of some doom yet unknown. And they did heed her warning, heard the surety in her tone, but they forget as years went by and the battles they fought were won.
"The Light is falling!" she did cry, years later in her prime. She looked in sadness upon the making of humanity's greatest crime. Some did take alarm at the warning in her line, but most chose to ignore it, thinking they yet had time.
"The Light has fallen," she murmured, faint, the years behind her long. Her knowing old eyes took in with grief a world all gone wrong. And at last the people felt the shadow dark upon the dawn, but when they went to her for help, she said, "Too late, the Light has gone."
And then the Light did die, she the last to preach its worth. With her death, all hope did flee, for the Darkness had been birthed. 10/18/2000 Posted on 09/22/2001 Copyright © 2025 Amanda J Cobb
