She Remembers

by Amanda J Cobb

She remembers words
stronger and heavier than her,
being pinned with his laugh,
her back to the rain,
just happier.

She remembers days
shorter and simpler than these,
watching the stars in his eyes,
her back to the past,
just happier.

She remembers that night,
sudden and sadder than before,
crying at his grave,
her heart couldn't take anymore,
Her back to those damn stars
that took him away.
No longer happier.

And she wants forever
to be lighter and easier than this grief,
by his side in the heavens,
her back to this life,
just happier.
