Lemons

by Amanda J Cobb

You wonder about life,
the future and the past
and if it's all already planned
or if you really have a choice.
You're uncertain what you want
out of love and out of life,
where it is you're going
and how to deal with what you get.

    Handed lemons, we make lemonade,
    sometimes sweet and sometimes sour.

But you were never much of a chef.

So you go through your days
with this kind of sharp uncertainty
that chips at your core,
subtly dismantling your foundation.
The scattered bits of your mind
clutter the recesses of your heart
and pierce the corners of your soul,
building up and building up,
until you're forced to face your fears...
and trade in worries for a juicer.
