I wish I could have lived
in the time of the explorers,
done something as great
to be remembered forever.
There's nothing worthy left to do
that one person alone is capable of.
Actors and athletes are the heroes now,
skills that fade with age
and artificial beauty
outweighing true personality.
Money has obliterated integrity.
Maybe that will be my accomplishment -
to remain purely me,
untainted by the perils
of fame and fortune.
Someone, somewhere
might remember me.
Who knows?
Maybe I'll even get
a road named after me.
