Forbidden

by Amanda J Cobb

You yearn and you want and you hope,
all the while knowing it's impossible,
the risks too many
and the consequences too harsh
to be able to set inhibitions aside.
Yet, even knowing that,
you can't quench that fire -
the one that burns inside
and longs to rage with the intensity
of an exploding sun.
Rational mind can barely manage
to control that rebel inside.
Self-imposed restrictions,
the hardest to bear -
you can't quit wanting it,
you can't allow yourself to have it,
living in the constant temptation
of the forbidden.
