Broken

by Amanda J Cobb

    You said it was mine...

In your eyes I saw a promise
of the great love to come,
and in your smile I could see
one to whom I could belong.
In your arms I felt the warmth
of the heart you said was mine,
and in your lips I tasted
the sweet grapes of Cupid's wine.

But your eyes turned to ice
and soon after turned away,
and the smile I knew as home
threw me out in the street that day.
Your arms let loose their hold,
and no matter how I cry,
the lips where I touched heaven
now only whisper goodbye.
