Childhood Dream

by Adrian Calhoun

He is on call day and night,
ready to go at the snap of a strap.
Cold or hot, rain or shine,
he grabs his grip,
and pulls out right on time.

A lonely life sometimes,
hours, even days away from home.
He misses his wife and kids,
but he loves them very deeply,
and he knows, they know he does.

In his soul,
from the day he was born,
he was meant to roam.
For this reason,
he would not trade a single minute.
The places he has been,
the places he has seen,
and the wonder of what tomorrow will bring.

Untold there is another reason.
He is living out a childhood dream,
to see all of these things,
from his engine.

So next time you hear that horn,
or rumbling sound.
Remember what it was like,
to put your toy train on track,
and dream of riding the rail.

In every engineers eyes,
there is a glimpse of that little boy.

Wonderful words to describe such a lonely life, as told by the little boy who loves his trains. Mrs. C
