As Only I Do

by Jacki M Butler

They have never seen you the way I do
You have never shown them the true you
They see an arrogant, obnoxious jerk
Who has a low opinion of himself
I see a caring, loving person
Who is scared to show his true self

Since the incident
Their opinions of you have worsened
And mine have grown stronger
They see you through your actions
They see all the people you have hurt

They don’t see how much you are hurting yourself
I know you are sorry and feel remorse
They don’t believe that
They see you as a heartless beast

I wish you would open up to them
Show them your true self
Without the scared front
Let them see you as only I do
Let them see how you do care
That you have a heart
Let them see into your heart
As only I do.

really well expressed first stanza, along with the rest of the poem. you have a clear and compassionate vision that goes much deeper than most.
