A Night To Remember

by Jacki M Butler

You knew me as the girl next door
The jeans, t-shirt, and ponytail
The tomboy who was a great friend

You said yes to the prom
You came while I was still in the den
I wasn’t ready to be seen yet, so you waited
I walked slowly down that dark hall
My eyes fixated on you
You glanced up and your mouth fell open

You tomboy in her Cinderella gown
With her hair and makeup perfect
You looked like you’d never seen her before
This was your first look at my heart

You brought me jewelry and flowers
You went with me and danced the night away
Even though you hate to dance
You did it all for me

You are the nicest person in the world
You showed me the night I would never forget

We didn’t end up together
But you were always there for me
You always knew how to show me
A night to remember.
