Scarred for Life

by Adrian Calhoun

11 September 2001 ,
and the days following, now turning to weeks .
I watched in absolute horror and fear .
I struggle for reasoning, purpose ,
and yes, justice .

In the past several days ,
I have witnessed a broad spectrum of emotions .
First came shock and terror ,
followed by a numb disbelief or denial ,
then came anger and even hate .

I hear the cries of those mourning .
The losses of what magnitude ,
not yet, or even soon ,
to be fully realized .

I have seen the strongest of faith ,
shaken to the very core of their existence .
I have seen the hardest of men ,
weeping as children .
I have seen families and a way of life ,
disrupted and torn apart .

Time may be the greatest healer of all ,
but the scars to cover these wounds ,
mental, physical, and emotional ,
will take many years to even form .

Wonderful, raw emotion. All of which I have felt at some point also. Good Work!
