nearby escape by Stephanie MyersI pool to the floor
like the discarded clothing
from worn last night.
Sweat
staining my brow.
Lungs still heaving
from the long, awaited
escape.
Wrists still scarred
from the steel cuffs
that bound them.
In the basement below
the house in the woods.
Remembering the crunching of
leaves beneath bare feet.
Dismissing, sharp stones
penetrating the skin.
Running blindly
into the night.
Heart pumping with
terrified adrenalin.
The heavy ax
that was lifted
above my head.
To remove life
from the one who
extinguishes it.
Struggling free from
the ropes that bound
my legs to the cherry
colored chair.
The nearby fireplace acting
as my aid.
Wrapped inside a large
woolen blanket.
I shiver inside my abode.
Remembering the events that
passed.
Freedom, it comforts me. 09/20/2001 Posted on 09/20/2001 Copyright © 2025 Stephanie Myers
