Walls

by Angela Hanska

They surround my heart,
To protect myself from being hurt.
As each day passes by
They get higher and higher, and
Nothing can stop the growth.
The higher they get the more
enclosed I feel. Then in
one fell swoop they begin
to crumble. Why, you ask?
No, tis not from fire, earthquake
Or storm. From the simple
Questions you ask, ones that
no one has bothered to ask
I could feel the weight begin
To lift. By your simple
Questions, I was moved to
Tears. Not one person, at
Least of the male part
of the species, even dared
to tread there. Why, I know
not, but you seem special
and will always keep a special
place in my heart as the one
who breeched the walls.
