the sun is not as warm

by Angela Hanska

The sun has risen and my eyes have opened
My heart falls for the one thing
I wish to see is not there
I close my eyes and let the image appear
It is warmer than the sun
Shining down on my face
I wish to go back to dreamland
To once again have something I can’t
But a voice calls me back so that I am awake
The voice tells me to get moving, to get the day started
As I leave the room
I look back to the bed
To where once more, when the sun is gone
That I will see the one thing that I long for
The image of you next to me
And one day, outside my dreams, the image will become reality
