The Journal of Emily Davidson

leash/square one
03/25/2009 01:26 a.m.
i have become
a master of
sitting silently
with my rage
at the tip of my tongue
but never loosening my grip
on the leash

*

every relationship
has the same routine
where when things start to go wrong
the woman first begs
but then demands
for change
and the man, his eyes to floor,
apologizes and recognizes
what needs to be done
and things look bright until
one week later
they're back at square one

I like this longer version better. Oh, how the disparate architecture of male/female brain guarantees burned heart-bridges, and thus art.
