The Journal of Soulo Jacob Bourgeau Sincere Thanks

Back in October I posted about a terrible motorcycle accident my father had. Many of you IM'd me with prayers and I feel bad that I never really followed up.
In a nutshell, my dad is a retired cop whose part time job involved riding a police motorcycle to escort funeral processions around Phoenix. An elderly woman who didn't see his flashing red and blue lights pulled out and pops broadsided her at 70mph (take your parents' keys away, folks!).
He was in a coma for weeks w/ severe internal injuries, collapsed lungs, heart attack, splenectomy, and minor head trauma. After 2 months and over $600,000 of medical care (so far) he is home and recuperating, though it will likely be a year before he's himself again. Mostly, he's got puffy legs and his left scapula hurts him (it broke in two spots). He's come so far just since Thanksgiving or so. I no longer have to heave him into a standing position or help stuff him in or out of the car. He's ditched the wheelchair, the walker, and gets around with a cane just in case. I can see the itch in his eye when he looks at his Harley. He had just had the thing rebuilt to the tune of $6K so I can't blame him, but I disapprove of him riding anymore. Not my decision though.
I wouldn't wish this experience on any family, but it has made us all more cautious, alert, and appreciative of each other. You watch the 10 O'clock news and they always talk to the victims who say, "You just never think this will happen to US." We hear that so much, it's cliche. But it is so very true.
So I sincerely thank all you Pathetic friends who offered me condolence and prayer those awful nights I thought my father was gone for good (you know who you are).
Sincerely,
