The Journal of Max Phineas

If only

If my life were a TV series, whose days were each individual episodes, I'd want to end each episode with a monologue.

Something that clarifies and analyzes, and leaves no questions unanswered.

I'd start each monologue with

"I guess what it all comes down to is..."

For example, if I had to make a choice between, say, creme broulee and jello (note the "My Best Friend's Wedding" allusion), my monologue would go like this:

"I guess what it all comes down to is what you have before dessert. Appetizers, entrees, and drinks make all the difference in how a dessert will taste..."

And I'd end each monologue with

"But when all is said and done..."

Like

"But when all is said and done, you just have to close your eyes and jump in. Grab the jello, and pray that the guy next to you enjoys the slurping noises."

And since it's a television show, I wouldn't have to explain the metaphors. It would just be clear.

I guess what it all comes down to is that this is reality. It's my life. It's not fictional, nor fantastical. I'm just a scene etched into one frame of the universal filmstrip. But when all is said and done, it should be noted that an entire lifetime may be shown in a dream; an episode -if you will- of the brain's own television show.
