The Journal of Terry Olynik 9/11
09/10/2005 05:05 a.m.
This is definitely one of those dates. J.F.K. assassination. Moon landing. This. As a Canadian, I don't think the impact of 9/11 was one iota lessend. As a letter carrier, we were called to the T.V. in the lunch room after repeated claims by (we thought), knuckleheads that a plane flew into the world trade towers. Yeah. Right. Then, a few minutes later, that the Pentagon had been hit. Everybody's in the lunch room. Had to go out on our mail routes. Craziest thing. No one on the streets. No one. Each porch you climb - T.V. blaring - people frozen. Two hours into my walk, stopped in to my bar (on my route), people transfixed. What's happening? I asked. The towers have collapsed, someone said. Yeah. Right. Went out and finished my walk - the streets absolutely deserted. Went home after my run and spent the remainder of the day as did everyone - hypnotized with horror. Watched through midnight, only later realizing it was my birthday. I am currently Surreal
