The Journal of Cathlyn Cartier Mother's Day 2005
05/09/2005 01:54 a.m.
Friday night, after my youngest son's baseball game, we had the car packed and drove straight to the farm, where my fiance was spending the weekend with his relatives.
Saturday morning my dogs were let out to potty, and decided to go exploring up the hill, again. Usually they come back within an hour, two at most... this time only one came home in two hours, the other one was missing for 6 hours!
Mark and I traipsed all across the area, up the hill, down to his uncle's stock tank. Mark shot a snake in the tank, then we headed across a field, climbed through the barbed wire fence, further down the hill... we ended up crossing two other properties, including onto a Beefmaster ranch, looking for the stupid dog (or not so stupid since she wasn't there and came home on her own wagging her tail later) before we finally gave up and headed back to his Uncle's place.
After that we headed up to the top of his Uncle's place to take care of the cemetery. Even with the 4 of us (Mark, "Blitz", my oldest son and myself, my youngest son wasn't much help) it took about 4 hours to mow it all, trim, edge, etc. "Blitz" waited until the Blue Bonnets and Indian Paintbrush had seeded out so we just help broadcast the seeds a little more. I have pictures on film that needs to be developed of the cemetery during the full bloom last month. ANYWAY, it looks much better, and we did it just in time, because the storms started blowing in early this morning!
Last night for dinner Blitz and Mark grilled chicken, steaks and the corn on the cob I had prepared for the grill, and I made some beans and cheesy rice.
Mark got up first this morning and made breakfast, while the boys were helping Blitz, and I took a bath. Mark usually makes breakfast on the farm. Blitz and our kids like the full country breakfast (bacon, eggs, pancakes, juice, etc.)
I did 4 loads of laundry, then around 3, Mark and I drove around looking at the properties in the area... we're hoping to find something for sale at a reasonable enough price we can afford it; at least 20 acres. It was still raining, but we were in his 3/4 ton dualie, much better than cruising the muddy roads in my Saturn.
I ended up driving the 84 miles back to Houston in the storm, but we made it home after only 2 1/2 hours.
Lots of hugs and kisses and "Happy Mother's Day" from my youngest, a peaceful weekend away from home and the hassles associated with it, and only 3 weeks left until summer vacation.... *Big Deep Contented Sigh* I am currently Refreshed
