Finally...
01/26/2005 02:12 p.m.
I'm going back to work today after being off the last two days with a sick child, again.

Sunday evening we took my youngest son to the ER because his eye was very red and swollen. He started complaining when he woke up in the morning. Since we had been installing treated lumber fencing the previous two days I figured he'd gotten some sawdust in his eye, like the rest of us, and tried flushing his eye with saline. I did this several times, but he still kept complaining. We gave him cool packs, but it didn't do anything for the swelling, so finally we took him to the ER thinking that maybe he'd gotten some poison oak in his eye. I wasn't expecting him to be admitted!

The Drs said it wasn't poison oak because there was no blistering. He did have an abrasion on his cornea, but they felt he had some kind of infection, a fairly serious one, and due to the history of MRSA in our house this year, decided to admit him for observation rather than take any risks. So they put him on IV antibiotics, eyedrops and eye ointment. The next morning the swelling and redness was almost gone, the opthamologist and pediatrician both said it wasn't the infection they were afraid of because he responded so quickly to antibiotics. They also both said that it was caught very early. So, I've been off work Monday (he wasn't released from the hospital until the early afternoon) and yesterday, he follows up with the opthamologist at 10 today. He probably could have gone to school yesterday, but I didn't want him going to school and start rubbing his eyes again and cause more injury, so...

I'm glad we took him to the hospital that we did, they have a wonderful ER triage and minor emergency clinic, within 45-60 minutes of our arrival they were ready to admit him. We only had to wait another 2 1/2 hours for housekeeping to get the room ready!

Well, toodles, gotta finish getting things together here so we can get to the Dr. early. If I'm not at work by 11:30 I'll be docked the entire day, and well if that's the case, I'm gonna come back home and take a nice nap! =)
