The Journal of Christel Crews The Dark Night of the Soul

St. John: "the soul perceives itself to be so unclean and miserable that it seems as if God had set Himself against it."
Paul Levy: "During this dark night, we, as an ego, experience our utter impotence and powerlessness. We seem to be caught in an infinite double-bind, and might be afraid that we are going crazy. At times it even feels like we have fallen into the depths of hell."
St. John: "the soul can do so little at this state; like a prisoner in a gloomy dungeon, bound hand and foot, it can not stir, neither can it see or feel any relief, either from above or below..."
Jung: "when the soul embraces and accepts suffering, the pain reveals itself as the birth pangs of a new inner being"
multiple religions expressing the exact same season of life that only one who has experienced it can fully understand it...

| Posted by Uriel Tovar on 12/11/04 at 10:51 AM its funny how platonism has penetrated the christian faith. is it really that the soul is the prisoner of the body or is it that both the body and the soul celebrate god's creation. suffering is a given in our life because we have sensations but is it really an evil? personally i do not believe in evil, persay. evil and sin is a deprevation of what is good but if we believe that god is all good, powerful and knowing then there is no way that evil can exist because how can it be that something lacks god in the world? everything in this world is a good, however, at varying degrees, one might even say that the most hideous crime such as murder or rape has good in it. but this is leading away from the main point. the main point is that the soul and the body are inseperable and we shouldn't embrace pain and suffering but strive for the good. |

| Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 10/26/06 at 11:07 AM Cristel - i need to remember this more often. it is easy to get so caught up in our own sorrows, sufferings, pains, disappointments, etc. that we overlook God's hand reaching out to comfort us. thanks! |
