A Brief Affair With The Snow

Just read this - great poem, but I all I could think of was a possible alternative title: "Who Pushed the Snowman Over, and Why is There a Hole in His Butt?" I am currently Bemused

My Val Kilmer poetry book is worth what?!?!
02/28/2008 10:35 p.m.
My wife and I discovered that one of our poetry books, "My Edens After Burns" by Val Kilmer of all people, is selling for -- get this -- anywhere from $900 to $4000!!! Apparently it's one of only 2000 signed copies of the first edition, and they are very rare because they were removed from shelves (by the author is what I read) sometime shortly after publication. I may try to sell, or may keep it around -- seems like a nice little investment property! I am currently Stunned

I'm starting to think that people often come to poetry looking for lofty, and see mine, snarky, as a real disappointing time waster. I live for the exceptions. But I can't change either my cynicism or my desire to create fun poetry. So, I apologize in advance. I am currently Bleh

How I'd like to perform "Schmariel"
02/24/2008 01:12 p.m.
I just submitted a really crass re-do of Sylvia Plath's Ariel (included below). I just realized that to perform this right, I would really need both poems. So I would get a new-age poetry groupie babe to read as Sylvia (in appropriately airy and meaningful tone), then I would counter every stanza with one of my own. If only...

Schmariel
---------
Spaces in parkness.
Then the Subway-ness new
store of borin' sandwiches.
Bob's tryin' this,
How funny grow
divots of meals, fat knees! ---The spurned foe
gives grand asses, mister you
the town mark
loves to belch, tries carrot hash,
bigger-thighs
squarely blast farts
Shook ---
Back street crud mouthfuls,
Bad clothes.
Something smells
Balls be new fare---
Fried, rare;
Tastes unlike eels.
Tripe
No jive ya, rye unsealed ---
Bread man, said give that yeast.
And now pie
known to eat, a splitter of jeans.
Beguiled by
Melting them all.
Pan fried
spam's the marrow,
They spew fat guys,
sluice Midol, a Tums with the fries
In toilet fed
sigh, they all run the bowl ring. I am currently Tired

An awesome read...major move
01/24/2008 10:14 a.m.
I'm a n00b, but I know important work when I see it. 'major move' by Michael Sabino should be required reading in Journalism school (as if we have Journalism schools anymore). Here's a link:

Study it. There's a lot to this one.
Michael -- I'm blown away -- keep the truth coming!
