The Journal of James Zealy Ducks landing
12/14/2004 06:15 p.m.
We have a "Place down bye the River", literally. It is located where High Rock Lake ends and the Yadkin River begins. If you go out early in the morning there is always some kind of activity that is just not seen anywhere else. Yesterday, as an example, I saw a duck come in for a landing. It was like watching a navy plane landing on an aircraft carrier. It legs were extended and it was braking with its wings until it hit the water. Next thing you know, the duck had its wings folded and was swimming. Then it begin to call loudly over and over (quack, quack stuff), as it was swimming away from the rear of our house. It wasn't long before another duck flew in for its landing, in exactly the same fashion. The first duck quit calling, and the second swam to the first and they swam off together. It was really a cool thing. The finisher, was a grey Egret took off just as the ducks were landing, as if they had coordinated with bird air craft control. I am currently Peaceful

Beyond the Rainbow

Well this is my first entry.
Last Night I saw first hand my son do the complete transformation from man, to impersonating a women. I was surprised at the time it took and the art work necessary to make it appear realistic. It was a special time because it was time for him to give up his title as Miss Gay North Carolina, a title he gained at the 25th Anniversary of the pagent. And yes he is gay, and yes he is a decent young man, and yes he has a partner for five years now. He just happens to be good at making himself look like a women. Not to mention a fabulous high Tenor voice.
It was different for us as we fought him so hard on this choice of a venue to perform. It is not mainstream, often ridiculed, and quite frankly has a less then seedy reputation. It took us years to understand, that the performance was not perverse but an artform. It took us until 2 years ago to get the nerve to go watch him perform. My wife and I have seen him at least 4 times.
But this is special this time, special because he seems to have found the impetus to go back to school, he has a years scholarship at a local community college, for a vocal show choir. He wants to help others like him, but without an education and the opportunity that it provides, his options are limited. He seems ready to leave the impersonations behind and focus on things that will allow him to have a more mainstream existence. He can't play dress up for ever, or the world will leave him behind, and his opportunities will be lost.
So last night I hugged him as we left for home, praying for a rebirth. It has taken me years to reconnect with my son, and I think at last we are there. That is why I wrote the piece Beyond the Rainbow in my library. For those of you that take the time to read it I hope you enjoy it. I am currently Overwhelmed
