023. 146 by John Herzogriding into
the heart of it now
the most Magnificent Mile
I am the intersection
of what was
and what might be
razed in great fire
and rebuilt
reborn into corridors
sprawling horizons over
river running backwards
lake splashing upwards
meet me at my beaches
embrace the waves
crashing upon me
shaping the shoreline
into something new
not the Chicago
you thought it was
but the one you needed
the one inside you
all along
and we assemble
piece by piece
the map that leads
us there
the tapestry
with edges frayed
but made stronger
for every thread
each silken strand
that binds it
and isn't it remarkable
the picture it forms
