standing before you
the maestro of Chicago Avenue
baton in hand, cuing your solo
you're the whole ensemble
and you're caught naked
no ensemble to save you
chasing buses and bravura
but you find yourself staccato
captive between Clark
and some sheet music
you never learned to read
so why race at all
to a show nobody will attend
only to open your mouth
and let nothing out
but steam
