008. 76

by John Herzog

you found me on Diversey
floating so far from home
a tiny dandelion seed
where are we to go

on the bus bursting with flowers
that some might think weeds
you sure want me gone but
there's no choice you see

I’m your family now
roots strangling your soil
just try to expel me
it’s useless to toil

as you’re begging for winter
because that’s all you know
and you think it will kill me
but that’s where I grow

so you tell summer she’s over
as you turn off the sun
you pray that it’s ending
but it’s only begun

Author's Note: CTA bus route 76. Bit of a crude quick write I just scrawled out on the bus home right now.
