free-verse

by John Herzog

"everything you say is poetry"

but you, you are poetry
simply inspiring me to seek words worthy of you
words that might come close to comparing
to your effortless rhythm and flow

how could I cease to write
while you breathe internal rhymes
more quickly than my heart beats
as I bear witness to your stanzas

for as with any decent poem
I can read between the lines
and I see myself there
echoed throughout your free-verse

and I may fill a thousand books
with songs of you
but they will never outnumber
the pages you turn inside me

Love this John. Great use of allegory. Maybe a hopeless romantic (like me) but not in terms of your writing.
