the firefly

by John Herzog

I have never seen a firefly
fly in winter
but how I can fly for you
oh, how I can glow
even cast in snow
I shine brighter than Sirius
in his howling light
wings cocooned
in an ice iridescent
but never too heavy
as to keep me
from landing
in your backyard

The words you chose seem to reflect the light. Thinking of fireflies takes me back to childhood too. I remember when they were in abundance here in the south. Thanks John.
