Abolitionist She

by Philip F De Pinto

Abolitionist She
Taking mock pity on He
Took out her implement and
Shucked his prison
Like an oyster

Abolitionist She
Took a gander at the pearl
Which He had fashioned of despair
Stole away with the pearl
Slammed shut the prison
Sealed it anew

As something to come back to
To shuck and to steal
Then slam shut and reseal
As a necessary evil
If Abolitionist She was ever to arrive
At a string of pearls
