Comfort/discomfort

by Timothy Wilson

My toes I dug deeper into the warm sands of sanity’s shore
I reached out for her and she took my side
A smile brighter than early afternoon glare

I built walls to keep happiness inside with me
I cut out windows then painted over them with what I wished to see
Now I’m growing older and my roots are deeper than a boy’s

I took the right pills and I took them on time
I told myself it would work and to my surprise it may have
Now we both push onward staying in one place
Leaving a crater the size of California
Inside my home in Florida

This was an instant slap in the face for me. I love when that happens.
