Legend of the One Eyed Jack

by Mike Loftis

The evil knight the Jack of Spades
Lay fitful in his bed
As thoughts of thrones and kings and queens
Danced about his head
His plan to rule the kingdom
Had perished with his queen
Through an act of selfless vengeance
The knight had not foreseen
Her guards had found him o’er their queen
As blood flowed from her breast
And washed away the plans he’d made
The dreams that he’d possessed
His reminiscing ended
As the sun rose in the sky
The guards came in by twos and fours
It was time for him to die
They led him bound across the field
And through the screaming throng
Amid curses for a life to end
A life the knight could not prolong
His final words were spoken
But lost amongst the jeers
No one heard his final thoughts
Not one was shedding tears
As the noose went ‘round his neck
And the crowd went calm and still
He kenned he saw his king and queen
Upon the yonder hill
Hand in hand they looked at him
No hatred in their heart
Returned once more to earthly realms
To watch the knight depart
The trap door sprung the knight was hung
The crowd began to shout
The hangman stood in silent pose
As the joker danced about
An evil knight did die that day
And gave life to a legend born
Of suicide kings and one eyed jacks
And a queen the people mourned

Well, this one definitely rocks. There's no doubt about that.
