an oath of true abandon by Lauren Singeron top of a pile of dirty clothes,
wearing last night's wrist-band,
petting the cat with one hand,
and scratching my knee with the other,
you can have me.
at the dinner table,
when i have had too much wine
and my stained lips are hyperbolizing
your imperfections and my sweater hangs
defiantly off of one shoulder,
you can quiet me.
at the market,
while i dally through buckets of berries
when you only want to buy meat
and i walk slowly behind you
listing off the things we'd buy if
only we made more money,
you can hurry me.
in your apartment
when i am charmed by your roommate,
liking when he looks at me
and letting an arm brush his chest when i reach for a glass,
you can resent me.
in your arms
while you run your fingers through my hair
and i fall asleep, my mouth hanging limply open on your leg
while you are randy,
you can wake me.
and i will let you take me
in every way a person can be had.
and i will let the span of every momentous feeling
roil under my skin and devour me.
i will suffer through drought and deluge for you.
and you can have all of me.
if you can just
be good to me. 02/18/2011 Posted on 02/19/2011 Copyright © 2024 Lauren Singer
