Sonorous Silence, pt. II

by John Herzog

There isn't enough space in this universe
to keep us apart

No boundaries of time
to wear us away

And while the sonorous silence
of this empty night
still echoes over the shadowy canyons of the earth,
I hear your voice over it,
carried on a breeze
that sifts through the trees,
calling from across the galaxies

I can still see your face
your eyes like nebulae
in my memory
in the starlight that never dies
but shines through space-time forever
just to reach me here as I lie alone in my driveway
as I join the crickets in their song

And someday,
I will be the one to reach you

Someday,
we will be be together again

You spin out the power of love in a stellar fashion. I enjoy the allusions to bodies in space and the elasticity of time in a poet lover's soul. Lovely poem.
