Summer Love in Retrospect

by Lyss Copeland

Let's take things slow:

as I undress you with the words
slipping through my delirious lips,
I see her perched in the background,
revealing the truth of our relationship:
that no matter what I say,
taking things slow will be the death of us.

Before the autumn leaves can fall like rain;
before the summer sea recedes back into time,
I already feel an echo of the pain
left behind from your
soon to be missing presence,
begging me to listen
before I fall more in love with you.

Beautifully written, I don't have any more words on this!
