Earline Bridges

by Joe Cramer

I knew Earline Bridges
from many years ago,
her family too,
and especially her sister.

It just isn't right.

I even knew her husband,
he had lived right down the street.
I wonder what happened,
why she chose to end her life,
putting a bullet in her brain.

It just isn't right.

Earline Bridges taught school
for many a long year.
She was even a Principal.
Perhaps the weight of bureaucracy
became too heavy upon her,
upon her life.

It just isn't right.

As an adult,
I just knew a little of her,
and so she ended her life
shortly, succinctly
leaving behind such hurt,
such pain, such angst.

It just isn't right.

And life will go on.

It's just wrong.
