"May 6, 2009 1 p.m."

by Max Phineas

Alpha.

This morning
After coffee and cereal
I sat down and learned the Greek alphabet.

Decided to buy groceries
after the spring concert.

5 shots, or so I hear
An angry ex-boyfriend?

Twenty-one years
Ended in seconds.

Bolted doors and thousands of phone calls later
I sit down and learn tragedy.

Omega.

Author's Note: This is dedicated to the student shot and killed on my campus today. My heart goes out to her family and friends. RIP J.J.

the greek alphabet and tragedy learned all in one morning. A horrifying story told very well here -- it's eerie and should be.

Simple and viciously direct. The best way to tell a story like this.

What a tragedy. I like the form of this expression - the alpha-omega, almost a quick walk to the event which is so final.
