susurrus

by Maria Massarella

         it

               begins

                  with a whisper

                   the voice i hear a

                 susurration a

              music to ear

neither butterfly sigh nor tremulous leaf

           neither dreamwind nor

               disfeathered birdsong

                the voice heard

               arises from within

             rims the breath
