another analogy for life to balk at by Lauren Singerthere is a lot of dreadful surfacing of all this understanding,
but i am thinking that we are only allotted
a certain amount of memories to which we
do not shudder, to which our bodies impulse
is to fold in on standing and recollect a warmth.
oh yes, the going has been rocky and we've all felt the tipping dip
of this monsoon--yet
i cannot tell you how many times i have ached in tenderness,
have caught my breath in true elation,
or found meaning in the truths that i have sought.
though i have found in all this terrible ailing
and searching for naught
that this life is not for counting all the times
the earth has vibrated with our egos,
our triumphant grins--
instead we must live for imperfection,
disorder, the loveliness of
all we've left to ruin.
for when we find that all our waters
are smooth sailing,
our boats will surely capsize then. 06/30/2008 Posted on 07/01/2008 Copyright © 2024 Lauren Singer
