A Day for Grace

by Mark Maxey

As dusk bestows it magic
unveiling it's majesty
reflections beckons you
on this magnanimous day

years ago on a small patch of earth
walking with your brother
hand in hand
leading him on the path

he looked up at you
knowing your guidance
was an angelic gesture
the grace of your living

weathering the storms
protecting the sacred circle
making sure he was safe
was your noble calling

normality exchanged the tone
adolescence awkward years pass
but the calling remained
it just took a different form

stretching his wings to fly
he fluttered and the winds
took him through diverse airs
he still called out to you

when he finally landed
not knowing his role
again your grace lead the way
to his own nascence

this magnanimous day
unfolds to show
the honoring of the
day you were born

angels sing and the heavens glow
with praise of your calling
and your brother is leading
the bands to honor his sister

of how she listened to her heart
and called forth the peace
meant for all
