an adoption by Lauren Singerjoshua,
i will never know you like i knew you then.
you were a security blanket,
a brown kidney bean among a planet
of oak trees. and i talked to you.
i cried with you, for many things.
i told you about God, and didn't expect you
to have answers. i watched your nose turn into
your father's nose. and i wondered how it would be
for you, because even then, i knew i couldn't keep you.
in my dreams you'd tell me things, even after you were gone,
and you were always you, never aged even after years
and years. you were a wise baby/child and somewhat of a man
in your hospital clothes. even with your eyes closed.
i could see that you were smart then.
oh, you could have been so many things with me
but now you can be them where you are.
i named you joseph, but you are joshua to them. 06/10/2008 Author's Note: too young.
