My Gentle Mother

by Joe Cramer

My gentle mother, Nature

Has no patience for me.

My wildest heart tamed

By her infinite majesty.

Her conversation with me,

Her voices along wayward day

Lifts my weary soul free,

Touches me in this way.

As the sun goes slowly down

This mistress of my life

Slides in, quietly to surround

Me, without angst or strife.
