Nap time...

by Nicole D Gregory

There is a quietness
that settles around you
and a moment of perfection
when warmth eases away
the tension

That is when I would quietly
come in~
The gauze dress that rustles
from the breeze coming in
the open window
I would let drop
to the floor
draping around my feet
like a sleeping kitten

~and you would be there~

among the cotton and linen
breathing the deep sleep that
old men's watches keep

~gently the blankets would flutter
above you ~ and I would sneak in
quietly sliding one leg down you
and one over you
softly reaching across to
cover us with dark shades
of lavender

If you stirred I would whisper
~ Its okay ~
We're together
~ I am here ~
and your heartbeat would settle down
as you sigh
Letting you curl in to me
where my neck and shoulders
meet ~ it's the location
where Asian spices,
and lavender vendors
sell their goods to me
Breathe in ~ Relax ~ Unwind

My lips rest on your ear
I whisper my secrets
and unlock yours ~
Watching your mouth move
taking notes on humid clouds
and finding its way to nourishment ~
My breath covers you with warm
cinnamon ~ a security blanket of pure silk ~
Your hands move
across my landscape
To my hips and lower back

Bones and tendons
Fingers and vertebrae
All the same warm flesh

Dreaming the dreams of my secrets
locked in your sub-conscious
I lead you to me with a trail
of black stockings and baby blue
cashmere ~ you only need to stay
where you are ~ eyes closed ~ tempo
breathing ~ strumming fingers

I will be next to you holding your lost
toys, scraps of letters you never
sent and secrets about your life you
haven't shared

Author's Note: I don't want you to wake up too soon... ~N
