Be Careful What You Wish For...

by Anastasia Shows

Be careful what you wish for-
You might just get it.
It’s just a knock away from the devil’s door.

That fancy-free girl with her heart on her sleave,
Might look good on your arm.
But hold on too long, and your heart, she’ll cleave.

That unspoken wish to enhance your art,
Might make you famous,
But not without ripping out your heart.

You say that you want to speed up time,
Want to retire now,
But darling you missed your prime.

So please just appreciate the here and now,
Don’t go planting seeds of elaborate dreams,
Especially if for them you don’t care to learn to plow.

That does seem to be a problem these day. Lot of people want to reap but won't sow first. Good poem.
