America, The Machine

by Anastasia Shows

I wax and wane lackadaisical
I cherish those moments of complete unadulterated
silence.
What some refer to as idle, I refer to as the twinkle of
the next great idea in my eye.
People often pass me on the highway, and throw the
proverbial finger.
Is it so intolerable to at the speed limit linger?
ThatÂ’s the problem with society today, we are much too rushed,
Caffeine junkies
Anxiety ridden
Depression lacerated
Weight obsessed
Stress laden
Workaholics
Who
prefer to SELL the roses.

Well, hello neighbor!
The last line is a wonderful finishing flourish. I am a caffeine junkie, I must confess. But I also wax and wane lackadaisical in spite of doing it in a revved up manner. I'm probably one of those passing you on my daily commute, but I don't finger fellow commuters. I can honestly say I never have. Well. Not since I was a teenager anyway and that's been *ahem* a year or two ago. Welcome to Pathetic! Very much enjoyed your first posting and hope you add many more soon.

The problem is we were raised to think of ourselves first. Rather than leave a few minutes we expect everyone to get our of our way. We will have to learn the hard way. Nothing short of a long depression or a war on our soil will wake us up. Unfortunate but true.

Welcome to Pathetic. I like this piece and agree completely with the sentiment. I too prefer to cruise at a lower altitude than most others and am often ridiculed with all speaking finger. Well said. --bf
