speechlessly rendered

by Aaron Michael

Greyscale was surpassed by color
Until someone put your picture
in black and white.
Though a single frame captures
Mere instants, it’s worth every syllable
Taken to describe them
And I would start if I ever thought
I’d come to shadow how
Awe-inspiring you truly are.
Every word I know worth using
In what few languages I’ve heard
Worth speaking them in and those
That I haven’t and what progress has
Left to die that was once beautiful
Seems dry and lifeless when I imagine
What a soliloquy I could come up with
If I only took the time.

But all the time in the world would be wasted
Trying to tell you what I can instead just
Spend my life making up for the fact
That you leave me without words to describe you.
