drinking fountain water,
laughing. spitting, splashing.

remember the red cheeked fancies,
pretending,
imagining every other life,
but ours?

lovers were innocent then.
honest, without motive.

drink up, the ocean water
stings you with her pulse.

drenched in the rain of a thousand
fallen caterpillars we cling to raw equations
and make assumptions towards the moon

and everything cruel.
